2013 Franciscan Estate Fountain Court White Wine Napa Valley
76% Sauvignon Blanc & 24% Muscat
Beautiful orange blossom, jasmine and honeysuckle followed by fruit driven aromas of lychee, ripe nectarine, and guava with a hint of grapefruit. Very rich and exciting with layers of complexity. Full yet lively with passion fruit, hints of lime and mango, followed by notes of Meyer lemon and white nectarine. Fleshy, juicy, and rich.
The 2013 vintage gave us near perfect growing conditions which led to an early harvest with the first Estate Sauvignon Blanc grapes from Oakville arriving at the winery on August 5th, 12 days ahead of 2012, and 25 days ahead of 2011. Spring conditions were warm and dry which led to an early bud break and very even set. Aside from one hot spell at the end of June, temperatures remained moderate throughout the spring and summer. With only 8 inches of rain from January through June, the vines had less green growth and an earlier turn to fruit development. As harvest progressed, the quality of the Sauvignon Blanc was exceptional and the last came in on September 6th. The Muscat Canelli is from the Stag’s Leap District and was picked later in the season on October 5th.
At California’s historic missions, a fountain was a symbol of welcoming and the promise of an oasis for travelers. Our Fountain Court wine is similarly welcoming for our guests. The predominant grape variety of this blend is Sauvignon Blanc – a white Bordeaux variety that provides a crisp and refreshing foundation, providing vibrant notes of lime and minerality. We blend in Muscat Canelli which adds terrific exotic fruit characters, body, floral notes, and a perception of sweetness. This allows our Fountain Court to pair beautifully with a range of culinary possibilities, from spicy barbeque to Thai and other Asian cuisines. It’s a rich, friendly, approachable blend, perfect for picnics and gatherings with friends. ~ Janet Myers, Winemaker
